Buenos Aires, Argentina
– Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power
and temperature control
solutions, is the official supporter of the 2014 Dakar Rally, which will take place between the 5th and 18th of January in Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. They will also provide ‘mobile’ power solutions for the Rally Dakar competitions, the world’s greatest endurance motor race.
The event will see professional and amateur participants compete in the annual off-road race over the course of 15 days and cover a distance of 5,000 km. This year the Rally will start on the 5th January from Rosario, central Argentina, passing through the southern Latin American country until it reaches Bolivia on the 12th, then onto Chile on the 13th. Drivers will race across the Andes and continue through to Calama, Iquique, Antofagasta, Copiapo until reaching the finish line in Valparaiso on the 18th January.
Aggreko has designed a flexible and mobile power package that includes three 350 kVA power generators,
which will be installed, set to run, decommissioned and transported multiple times during the 15 day event. Expert technicians will be tasked to travel ahead of the race in order to reach the interim resting destinations and set up equipment in time for racers and competition entourage of support team and media to arrive ready, for the night.
Today, Dakar is one of the most exciting motor sporting events, as it challenges participants, who typically consist of 80% amateur, to drive through testing off-road terrains that include dunes, mud, camel grass and rocks amongst others.
José Schiavi, General Manager of Aggreko Argentina said, “This event brings together motor enthusiasts from all over the world. Support teams, sponsors, media and broadcast audiences are drawn together to witness the impressive endurance these racers are put through. Dakar presents Aggreko with an excellent opportunity to showcase just how valuable it is to have the support of experienced mobile power providers, who are able to keep up with the pace of the race, provide reliable power where needed and administer solutions with expert technicians who are trained to adhere to the highest standards of health and safety.”
